Walking through the green of the woods and crossing the paths of other creation, I always am intrigued by the wanderings of the dragonfly. They're a friendly sort of creature, you know. I remember thinking when I was such a little girl, how frightening these were with their long, 'needle-like', tail-ends. Being told that they'd sew you up with those needles of theirs was surely a thought to keep me running far away from them.
Funny, so many things as an adult, we long for when we think on back to childhood. Like the freedom to explore a green world with the mind of child and think of little holes in the tree's as being doorways for elf. How about the mushrooom's found on a woodland floor? Oh, yes. They, too, have a purpose for the bugs or, even the fairies.

To Be Like a Dragonfly

I smiled at the thought that the little holes in the tree bark were doorways for elves. I used to think the reflector buttons at the top of the guardrail posts were the lights in the penthouses apartments in which the fairy folk lived. I used to sit in the back seat of Dad and Mom's car, trying to imagine how the tiny rooms were decorated: what kind of furniture and curtains they might have, what sort of pictures would hang on the wall. These imaginings kept me happily occupied on a lot of long drives to and from my grandparents' place when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteI love your imagination. I used to do the same thing when I was young...on the rides to my Grandparent's home. They didn't live too far from us, but as a child anything longer than 10 minutes was LONG ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I miss how easy it was to think that way when I was young. The older that I get, the more that I have to fight to keep my imagination alive - but I will keep up the good fight because, I think without it, life would become too boring.
Good to hear from you!!
Gorgeous photo, Heather! He's quite beautiful. I remember being scared of them too as a kid. Now, they're downright fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI love dragonflies - it's a family thing!
